KEEA Executive Director Jeaneen Zappa shared the following statement in reaction to the Governor’s announced lawsuit:
“KEEA emphatically supports Governor Shapiro’s leadership in filing today’s federal lawsuit protecting Pennsylvania’s energy consumers. $2.1 billion in designated, promised federal funding is being unlawfully withheld from the Commonwealth.
“These funds include sizable investments in energy efficiency, an industry that protects consumers from rate increases, cuts energy bills, and creates outsourcing-proof local jobs. They include nearly $400 million for RISE PA, a program meant to help industrial ratepayers modernize their facilities, expand their workforces, and improve air quality; as well as nearly $200 million for programs like the Home Energy Rebates (HER) and Home Electrification and Appliances (HEAR) programs, which help homeowners improve energy efficiency. Withholding these funds means less weatherization for homeowners, fewer equipment upgrades for PA employers of all sizes, and slower business for energy efficiency firms—in other words, higher energy bills and fewer jobs. We support the Governor and urge the federal courts to address this case promptly.”
