ICYMI: Virtual Press Briefing: Leading Climate, Clean Energy Experts Highlight What the Pittsburgh AI Summit Missed

Harrisburg, PA – Today, a panel of energy experts gathered to provide a consumer-first, clean energy perspective following the AI Energy Summit held at Carnegie Mellon University on July 15, highlighting the Summit’s failure to focus on clean renewable energy – an essential part of the solution to meet rising electric grid demand generated by AI and data centers. Additionally, there was no mention of the impact on consumer electric bills.

Senator Dave McCormick convened leaders in AI, energy, and government — including President Donald Trump — to boost Pennsylvania’s role in the AI and energy sectors and announce a $90 billion proposal for AI-related investments in statewide projects. Fossil fuels will largely power the projects.

Unfortunately, the Summit overlooked clean, renewable energy as a means to power AI data centers and create good jobs in Pennsylvania. If clean, renewable energy is not part of the solution, energy bills will increase, the grid will be overstressed, and Pennsylvania will be unable to meet the energy needs of the proposed investments.
